Summer is almost over and I can hardly believe how much we have squeezed in the last month.
One of the highlights of July was spending two weeks in Washington visiting family.
It was a gorgeous place! There was tons of coffee, airplanes for Garrett to see, good conversations, celebrating my brother-in-law taking command of a squadron, and it ended too quickly.
It was special to be at the change of command ceremony and i’m excited for their family as they go into this new season as a military family.

Since coming home we have enjoyed seeing our friends, playing outside, and taking a few hikes. I spent some time cleaning out the flower beds around our home and feel better now that they’re weed-free again.
Garrett has changed a lot over the last few months and I’ve accepted he is a little boy now. It’s strange how you want your kids to learn new things and reach different stages but also keep them little. I will miss this time with him when he starts school. Next year he’ll probably begin preschool and I can hardly believe that.
I set up a learning corner for him last week and found an art class he can attend this fall. We already did one morning last Thursday and had a blast playing with play dough and working on a few pages of his preschool book.

WOW! You really DID have an exciting summer — and Garrett has grown a LOT! I was thinking to myself just before I read your words, “That is a little boy there, not the toddler I’ve watched growing in pictures.” And the smile on his face in his uncle’s arms? Not enough room on his head for the bigness of that happy little face! LOL!
So glad you had a wonderful time in Washington, it is a beautiful place to be. I have family in Oregon, pretty much the same thing. I love those areas out in the Pacific Northwest, wish I could travel out there with my camera and a laptop to upload the photos into FB.

Hi Laura, I immediately recognized your pictures. I live in Washington State and knew which state you were in before you mentioned it. We are retired military. We retired out of the Navy at Naval Station, Everett. My husband was on three ships, but the last two were out of Everett. Our daughter is Army and our son is Navy. I guess that means I’m in this for while. I now have a military ministry here and working on promoting my latest book, “Faith Steps for Military Families.” I’m glad you got to see our beautiful state this summer as we’re having superb weather. This is our third summer of relatively no rain, not always a good thing, but nonetheless, we are loving it. It really doesn’t rain here as much as people think, but we do get more cloudy days during the winter. But, when we have summers like what we’re having now, we love this part of the country. Great place to raise kids, economy is good and good schools, even charter schools and many private Christian ones. But, it was a treat to hear you were here. Hope to hear from you again and I enjoy your newsletters.
