Today is my son’s birthday and we are celebrating in a very low-key way compared to what I’d hoped.  I originally thought we would celebrate this year with family while Darren was deployed but things changed and we had to move within two weeks and there wasn’t much time to plan for a party and then Darren’s schedule changed again and I’ve been dealing with serious mom guilt!

I’m a regular mom who wants the best for her child.  But feeling guilty because I couldn’t deliver the perfect day or party was stealing every ounce of joy.
Whenever I reach for perfection as a mother I always end up disappointed.  I’m in need of God’s grace daily as well as a better grasp on my limitations as a mother.  I can’t give Garrett the party I’ve dreamed up but I can make him pancakes and kiss his sweet cheeks all day.  I can make him a yummy dinner and we can spend this day together thankful that God blessed our family with one more year.

God is using these years as a military spouse to teach me how to be more flexible.  It’s not easy to let go of guilt but that guilt comes from non other than my enemy who would love for me to sit in the chains of this false idea of what a good mother is and is not.
I am beyond thankful to serve a God who loves me and extends grace with no limits!

This picture of our chili dinner has nothing to do with this post but I wanted to celebrate life with a meal plan, dishwasher, and full tummies in our home.
I have missed making meals like this and baking!
