He leans in and kisses me before he leaves. No sparks fly and to be honest it feels like he’s leaving for work and will be back later.
Weeks in I find myself sitting on the couch and it hits me, ‘He’s not coming back home for a long time’. {tears}
How in the world am I going to do this?
I browse through some pictures of military life on pinterest and realize i’m not as brave as I expected myself to be. I’m already falling apart and it had only been a few weeks!
I spent a good deal of time praying that evening admitting that ‘Laura strength’ only carried me a few weeks and I needed God’s strength.
Philippians 4:11-13
I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
At some point you’re going to hear from a kind friend, “I don’t know how you do it”.
If you’re anything like me you may fumble through an answer while inside admitting you haven’t a clue! : )
How can we cope with a deployment?
One day at a time.
The reality of a deployment is that the circumstances are awful.
You will feel alone at times, people will move on with their lives, your own strength will fail, and you may at some point admit to hating this deployment.
Unfortunately there is nothing that you can do to change these circumstances.
There are some ways to respond but today I’m encouraging you to take up an attitude of hope.
You are dearly loved, not alone, and this will not be forever! That’s good news, right?!
This is a statement on attitude that I think about often:

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
And so it is with you… we are in charge of our attitudes.
As a military spouse I’ve accepted that there is very little that I decide. But attitude is the one thing that I choose. This year is going to be hard but I have faith that God will provide strength for whatever comes our way.
