He never said, “Laura you are entitled to a beautiful home with organized closets, healthy children, an adoring husband, a nice church family, two cars, money, and a good life.‘
He never said it but I believed it..I chased it for years and that was the dream.
Until recently.
Tonight I have to kneel next to my baby’s crib and apologize for failing..for putting my wants and needs first.
For wanting to be popular like a 15-year-old girl showing up her first day of high school.
Acceptance in the eyes of this world is short-lived.
But to have the favor of God is real fulfillment.
I bow low and beg God to teach me to be a giver, to love others before me, to show me how to invite others into this home, and to really understand the call for my life to make disciples who make disciples.
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
I love my God. It’s by his grace that I can even sit here tonight and write this out.
It is not wrong to want nice things but when we start to feel entitled then we jumped ship somewhere.
It’s time to let Jesus find us and come back to Him.
I listened to a handful of sermons this last week (I love it!) and I kept tearing up or sitting in shock because these men of faith were speaking truth about our world, our church, and the urgency to share Christ.
But I keep Him close so that none can be offended…
And I go on browsing pinterest adding more images to my dream.
I seek comfort, peace, perfection and sadly for quite some time now, I’ve been seeking that apart from Christ.
In the last few weeks I’ve been silent as God has been working this all out in my heart.
For those that have been around here long you know that when I was a little girl I accepted Jesus into my heart. I have loved Him since that time and our relationship has been changing over the years as I grow in knowledge of this Almighty God.
And honestly..as soon as I start to believe that i’ve in some way figured it out..thing change or I fail miserably!
Being a christian in America is HARD.
I think it’s the hardest place to be a christian. Because you can go to church and be a consumer, you can sit back and not feel a sense of urgency to share the gospel.
You can respectfully back away from the world and turn a deaf ear from the news, people, and anything that brings discomfort. We can speak however we want and rant, rant, rant our own truth.
It’s hard to be a christian (period).
But when you finally get it, fight for your time with God.
Fight the tendency to be lazy with prayer.
Praise Him..give thanks for EVERYTHING.
Because you’re going to run into pain, death, tragedy, bad things and you’re going to need a faith that lets you stand through all things. You’re going to desire to have a God that never leaves or forsakes you:
Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)
5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”[a]
I’m sorry friends for sort of failing you. For trying to be popular by the world’s standard and not writing the way God called me to.
If you’ll let me. I’d love to write once or twice a week and write when I have something to say not just because i’m told I need to write often and stay consistent to gain readers. :)
This week I’m soaking in the fact that God called my family to this place and we’re meant to bloom..by me reaching out because life doesn’t land in your lap..you have to go get it.
Reach by:
Inviting friends into your home
Serving God by using the gift(s) He gave
Give your time, money, and possessions
And share your God with your friends! He is hope for this broken world.
So chase a called life with me..not only a good life :) Praying for you tonight!
~Laura~
